PvP-ready character in PvE? Or just make a PvP-only?
When it comes to PvP, I mostly use PvP-only characters, but I've been increasingly wiling to make them look prettier... and the PvP armor rewards cost a bit too much for a casual PvPer like me. It's just not affordable.
So, I'm thinking it's cheaper/faster to create a PvE character and bring it to PvP. Even though all weapons, armors, skills, etc, must be bought individually, it still feels overall cheaper than buying the PvP rewards. Do people take this approach too? I'm curious if people just make PvE chars and take them to PvP, or just use PvP ones. What do you do? And if you'd make a PvE char for this purpose, what would be a fast method to max him/her out? Thx. |

I always have preferred to use PvE toons for PvP, but it does take a lot more resources e.g. shield sets, 40/40s, high energy set, multiple weapons, spears, bows etc.
I have the 1 PvP slot that I use from time to time if I do not have the class or equipement (generally dervish or a specific build type that requires certain weapons). Fastest way to get a PvE toon ready I have found is via Factions, good xp, easier to get to EOTN to really max the levels. Hope this helps. Silver |

Nice thing with PvP toons is everything you have unlocked is unlocked for them to use.
With PvE toons, you don't get to just outfit your toon and make a build. You have to actually have the cash, armor, runes, weapons, upgrades, etc. For skills you need the tomes to unlock the skills for that specific toon. Unless you are going to play a lot of PvE I don't know if it would be worth it for you if you are mostly a PvP'er. As a side, since I play mostly PvE, I use those toons for PvP as well and I find that most are not optimal. I just don't feel like buying anymore character slots. |

Unless your mainly a PvE player and have lots of gold laying around, I wouldn't create a PvE character to eventually go over to PvP. Sure if you farm a lot in PvE and have the money to buy the nice looking armours, weapon sets, runes, and tomes go for it.

I would start out with pure PvP characters and gradually replace them with PvE.
It's nice to not always be stuck at PvP outposts. But of course it's a lot more work involved. |

I would make pve char. There are a lot of same skills that are used in builds, and prob you don??t like to play some builds, so prob skill won??t be a problem. About armor, it depends on prof how many sets you need. Warrior usually don??t need much.

Make a pve char.
While it will cost alot to eventually get the 40/40 sets you want in fancy skins, until you have that cash, you can still buy armour and just use the crafter 40/40 sets from vasburg, which are going to be just as good as pvp-weps. Same with other weapons |

Use Factions for the PVE character, if you like the available armor. It's the fastest leveling campaign with the best collector weapons. Obviously you can't create a dervish or paragon, but every other profession is available. For fast gold to buy skills or tomes, you can farm feathers on Jaya Bluffs with an SoS build.
You will not have access to heroes immediately, but without their runes, insignia and maxed weapons, they are not as good as the available henchmen. Why waste the gold when you could put it to better use on skills and materials for armor.

Spec-ing for PvP isn't that bad on an already established (max) character. Most of the essential stuff is cheap from players or readily available from traders/collectors. Of course, if you want all of the pretty stuff, it's going to cost you, whether in gold or PvP rewards .
I wouldn't even think about starting a brand new character for the sake of playing PvP with them. Factions is probably the fastest though, if you're absolutely convinced of your plan. |

If I need a quick fix to re-roll as it were, I'll rustle up a PvP char, or to quickly mess around with skills, as I've deleted my Dervish, (could be a bad move) Paragon and Monk.
If you want your character to look good though, whatever floats your boat, the PvP rewards do cost a lot - an exotic weapon at 6 Gold Zaishen Coins, with another 6 Gold Zaishen Coins per fancy armor piece roughly, 30 Gold Coins total, and 9 Gold Zaishen Coins for a Dread Mask etc. Grinding those coins can be a nightmare if you're a casual player. If you have the money, you can just buy the armor, skills and runs to different parts of Guild Wars. I can see how that appeals. Elite armor, Elite tomes and different weapon sets still adds up to a great deal for new players, so the PvP option is there for easy access and an instant and viable setup. As I practically only do PvP these days, this is what I do anyway, except with the exeption detailed above. I can level my char to level 20 and buy max armor within a few hours, so it seems better, giving me the option if I do indeed fancy venturing to PvE land. |

I'll just parrot what everyone else said. Getting a PvE character PvP ready takes quite a bit of effort. Getting the proper weapons/runes/insignias from scratch can easily cost 50k.
Then again, if you're rolling a PvE char to look good, you've already won half that battle. I've recently gotten back into PvP, mostly GvG and RA, and getting my characters ready has been a pain. So far only my Monk, Sin, and Nec are fully equipped. |

Id say same as all the others , but i`ll also add that when i used to pvp i never bothered with a pve chr nor having special armor.Way i used to see pvp was a set of battles that often required you to adapt builds and in doing so often you have to change armor setup.
On a pvp chr changing armor setup is real cheap and takes up zero space as when unlocked all you need is free and wont need space for several sets of armor for obvious reasons. If a pve chr then not only do you need to pay for runes/serveral armor sets etc so it ends up being more costly. I used to pvp in normal pvp armor - doing pvp in fow armor just to look cool is daft in my books - i dont recall ever myself or a team mate stop and say to a kurz "wow cool armor" as usually we`re too busy trying to kill them let alone notice what armor they have. Also a consideration is - if you get bored of that class then a pvp chr is easier to re-roll than a pve and a damn sight cheaper. If you have space then make both a pve and pvp chr - pvp chr can be used till you have progressed the pve chr enough and have fancy armor etc. |

As stated above many times, if you have the time, money, and items, go right ahead.
I have 3 PvE toons I use for PvP. When I join RA with my VS/Chaos Glove/FoW armor monk, people always get excited. (Then they realize armor doesn't make me good, just good looking) But it's fun, and intimidating |

The only PvP character I've ever created was a Mesmer some months ago, since I'd heard they were a bit lacking in the PvE department. But once I'd had my fill of PvP and wanted to try one in PvE anyway, I re-rolled.
All my characters are PvE now. Other than your first couple of characters where you're still learning how the game works and where to go etc, it's not really that difficult or time-consuming to get them PvP-ready, especially with Factions characters as others have already pointed out. |

If you have a consistent source of RPs at all, PvP characters are far cheaper to outfit, and have a far wider range of available item skins.

Equiping normal chars for PvP is the main problem as most of the posts have mentioned, but I find that it's not so much cost/effort, rather the amount of storage space you'll end up sacrificing. Can become an issue if you still do PvE stuff on them.
